You could make your own sugar cookies in shapes like rattles, bottles, and cribs and decorate them with homemade frosting. By using an internet search engine or a baking cookbook can easily find recipes. You can also find pictures of the shapes online, print them out, cut out the pattern, paste it to a piece of cardboard, cut out again, and then wrap in plastic wrap and you have a pattern to cut out your cookie dough. No need to even buy cookie cutters! For a non-edible favor the craftier hostess could try knitting some small novelty baby bootees, or just ask a friend who knows how to knit to help.
